Free SKU generator for Shopify
Define a SKU pattern once, generate every variant combination, and download a CSV that imports into Shopify without errors — variants grouped by handle, option columns filled the way the importer expects, inventory and prices included.
Why Shopify imports fail
Shopify's CSV importer is strict, and most hand-made spreadsheets trip over at least one of these:
- Duplicate SKUs or handles — the import is rejected or products get merged.
- Wrong variant structure — variants of one product must share a
Handleacross consecutive rows, with product-level data on the first row only. - An Option Name with an empty Option Value — a single blank cell fails the whole row.
- Inventory without a tracker — quantities are ignored unless
Variant Inventory Trackeris set toshopify. - Excel side effects — leading zeros stripped from SKUs and barcodes, curly quotes, semicolon separators.

How it works
- Design your SKU pattern. Combine a brand code, attribute codes (color, size, material…), and an auto-incrementing number: OTR-BK-M-0001.
- Add products — or generate variants. Pick the options to combine (3 colors × 4 sizes) and OtterLabel creates all 12 variants with consistent SKUs in one click.
- Export the Shopify CSV. Variants are grouped by handle with option columns, grams, inventory quantity and policy, prices, compare-at prices, and barcodes.
- Import in Shopify admin. Products → Import → upload the file. Done.
